Default [9-8-2008] disruption due to bad weather

There are problems rail wise as a result of bad weather

Maynooth services have resumed. They were earlier suspended due to flooding at broombridge.

However there are significant problems to northern dart and commuter services owing to a minor landslide caused by flooding in the malahide area.

Malahide services are only operating northbound to howth junction and donaghmede.

Northern commuter services are currently suspended.

Belfast enterprise services are currently experiencing serious disruption.

Details on irish rail website.

Its rough out there

40 minute delays to Maynooth services

Southbound DART are delayed somewhat by a point problem at Grand Canal Dock

Despite Howth Junction - Malahide being closed the boards at stations are still showing Malahide as destination

Came in from Bray at 6, its looks fine all the way until Sandycove could get dodgy there later. Still raining. Flooding on the line is a function of the tide more than the rain, high tide will cause trouble

No pa on the train about only going to Howth Junc, Malahide was still on the auto pa and displays on my train

Points problem just south of Grand Canal Dock has been resolved, was a crew out with tools as I passed

Assume its bus transfers Drogheda Dublin for enterprise no one is saying anything about it

I was meant to be getting a train to town tonight but i dont think that will be happening.

Many parts of blanchardstown are impassible the tolka has reportedly burst its banks and the shopping centre has a number of shops flooded with the roads in and out of it flooded

The 19:05 to Sligo got held in Maynooth despite having a green signal

The 17:00 out of Sligo got stuck as well

The 19:50 Maynooth Pearse didn't appear, the 20:00 is running

I got the train from Clontarf Road to Howth Junction to avoid the buses on the Malahide road. All the trains were displaying the wrong location, neither of the stations had any information in the ticket office to indicate line closures, the driver made one single announcement at Raheny to say the train was terminating at HJ but didn't make another one when he got there.

The ticket office at Clontarf was closed with the gates locked open. When people were turfed off at HJ, there was no-one to tell them where they are, how to get to their destination or that the 17a (the only bus from HJ), was running was 30-40 minute late because of flooding on Oscar Traynor Road.

Completely and utterly hopeless attempt by Irish Rail. I can understand their CTC staff were overwhelmed but there's no excuse for their station staff or drivers.

We have raised the lack of on train info in these cases with senior IE managers before, will be doing it again.

The lack of bus route info is unacceptable, not everyone is familiar with the bus routes

If the rail line to Howth is flooded the roads at Sutton Cross are probably underwater as well, fat lot of good the bus is there

There are three bus routes within serving distance of howth junction station

The 17a and on the donaghmede side the 29a and another minute or two walk away the 128. Of course when you never have used the area before and have a lack of knowledge of the area bed in no information at the station this is useless.

Everything back running now

Morning trains to Drogheda and Maynooth have left Pearse

Passengers on the 9:05 to Sligo had to get a bus to Mullingar then onwards by train as the train set was stuck there overnight

Questions remain as to why there where 3 separate closures, rain isn't something new. OPW will have some explaining to do about the canal

Well a passenger has been in touch this morning to point out that enterprise services did operate on Saturday evening, in both directions. A NIR C3K railcar operated one of the services.

So why did Irish Rail say the line was closed?

Line was either closed or open. If enterprise could get through so could suburban and DART

No flooding on the line reported, although there was a 10mph limit on the approach to Malahide
