Default CTC announcements on board trains

Can anyone confirm if CTC can make an announcement directly via a train's PA system to the passengers, without involving the driver?
If so, on what trains types - i.e. 29000 class, 22000, 2700, 2800 and/or DART's?
And finally, has anybody actually ever heard this option being used - especially during delays...
Thanks in advance

Feature is available on all driver only operated trains. Exists on the DART fleet, and should exist on all 22, 26, 27, 28, 29k as well as Mk3 push pull and might work on the Enterprise and Mk4 trains.

I've never experienced it being used, then again it would be somewhat hard to tell. The great feature is the PA can be made on all trains within a certain area.

The CTC to all drivers function is used daily, you can overhear it. Most of the time the message is could the driver of the train in platform X in Y contact me. Of course the drivers rarely pass the message on when problems arise.

I remember being on a broken-down DART train once and there was an announcement saying "the driver is trying to rectify the fault". That may have been CTC.

According to Irish Rail the feature exists, it might not be used but it most definitely is provided for. Far too frequently a train is sitting for 5-10 minutes with no reason given, the driver well knows but won't tell

UK has similar arrangements which apply to driver only operated services
