Default Weekend disruption - Refund query

I have a season ticket (monthly) from Dublin to Portlaoise. I had to make that journey earlier today. With the track engineering works taking place, there was no trains running, something that I understand, and is unavoidable from time to time. What was not unavoidable was Irish Rail's inability to provide bus transfers for the likes of Kildare and Portlaoise for the entire day (and most of tomorrow), so I had to go to another bus company.

What I'm wondering is, seeing as I have technically paid in advance for a service that Irish Rail subsequently withdrew, with no replacement, am I entitled to a reimbursement from Irish Rail to cover my travel costs on the bus?

Even if I'm not entitled to anything, I'm still going to send them a request to do so. They make enough attempts to annoy their passengers - so I'm going to go annoy them for a while over this. It'll make me feel better! Might I suggest that anyone else in the same situation today do likewise. At the very least it might make them think twice about cancelling trains and not even bothering their hole to cater for passengers. Ah sure lets just say Irish Rail apologises for any inconvenience caused - it'll be grand!

For planned works, a replacement bus should always be provided.

Don't use the claim form, write a letter and see how it goes

Value of ticket/421 * times number of journeys

There is a bus service Portlaoise Dublin for Sunday

421 is the annual rate, of course; I think it's 42 for monthly tickets.
