Cork Station Closed Until Further Notice


Cork Station is currently closed due to serious damage to the roof on Platform 1 & 2.

Cork - Heuston Services will operate to and from Mallow only until further notice.

Cork - Cobh and Cork - Midleton services are suspended until further notice.

Looks like the Cobh and Midleton platforms.

Presumably the rest of the station needs to be closed to maintain emergency services access and pending a general safety inspection.

Part of roof fell onto a train, reports of an injury, hope everyone is ok.

Looks like the entire canopy roof came down. Expect major disruption to Midleton/Cobh services for rest of evening at least.

I would imagine that 1&2 will remain closed for some days but they should be able to run cobh and midleton services off 3 and 5

Cork Station is currently closed due to serious damage to the roof on Platform 1 & 2.

Cork - Heuston line services will operate to and from Mallow only until further notice. Bus Transfers will operate between Mallow and Cork.

Bus Éireann are running services between Kent Station, Cork & Cobh. Rail tickets are also valid on Bus Éireann services to and from Midleton

Unless they do something sensible like allow passengers use Cork-Waterford buses betweem Cork and Midleton, but that may be asking too much.

Bus Éireann are running services between McCarthy's Motor Point, Glanmire Road (Oppostite St. Patrick's Church) & Cobh. Rail tickets are also valid on Bus Éireann services to and from Midleton

Update: 19:30hrs

Cork Station has partially reopened after earlier closure.

The 18:00, 19:00 and 21:00 services from Heuston to Cork will operate as a train all the way to Cork.

Services from Cork to Heuston for the remainder of the evening will continue to operate as a bus transfer to Mallow with a train onwards to Heuston.

Services to Cobh and Midleton remain suspended. Bus Éireann are running services between McCarthy's Motor Point, Glanmire Road (Oppostite St. Patrick's Church) & Cobh. Rail tickets are also valid on Bus Éireann services to and from Midleton

Cork/Heuston and Cork/Cobh/Midleton services will operate as normal tomorrow morning, but may be subject to minor delays.

Services will operate from Platforms 3, 4 and 5 only. Platforms 1 & 2 will remain closed unitl further notice

Services to and from Heuston, Cobh and Midleton will operate but may be subject to delays.

Customers should note that there will be no car parking available in the main station Car Park due to the closure of the Lower Glanmire Road.

Being a little unreasonable?

BE were possibly using as many spare buses as possible and given such short notice getting buses organised takes time.

It took me over 45 minutes on a bus to move less than 1 km yesterday evening the city was complete gridlock and TBH buses were going nowhere in a hurry. I don't think I have ever being in such traffic.

When I arrived at the train station staff were actually very helpful (didn't expect the level of customer service given) going on previous dealings with such problems. Clearly customer service is changing for the better.

They had private bus operators doing Cobh route awaiting connections from Dublin to.

In fairness IE are generally pretty good in a crisis - day to to day operations and customer relations vary from world class to worse than Ryanair.

Closure of the main car park also means that the 205 and 226 buses are not serving Kent Station.

Unclear if the 205 & 226/A will serve the station (as in outside on the Lower Glanmire Road) once that road reopens:

All services operating normally with the excpetion of Cork City Route 205, Cork Institute of Technology - St Patrick Street - Kent Station and Route 226, Kent Station – City Centre – Cork Airport – Kinsale which are not serving Kent Station due to the continuing closure of the Lower Glanmire Road.

Tha GardaÃ* have advised that they expect the road to be opened by 13.00.

The Lower Glanmire Road was opened at 16.10 with Routes 205 and 226 operating normally.

There are some minor delays in suburban locations particularly Bishopstown, Douglas, Blackpool and Mahon.
