Looks like a very low speed affair - I would be surprised if the set sustained sufficient damage to keep it out of service for more than a few days (if that !)

In the case of Drogheda and the previous incident in Portlaois the location of the derailment was the real issue. Previous incidents in Fairview went unnoticed as there was another way in and out.

We don't know if this was a simple trap point derailment, an on train issue, e.g wheel profile, axle failure or a points issue. No photos from yesterday so no informed speculation either

I was on the 7.10 Dundalk train that morning,there was a big crowd of men on one of the tracks just outside platform 3 in Drogheda obviously examing what happened,didn't look to be overly major from what I seen.Train journey was pretty bad from then on because the train was 4 carriage,only people who got seats that morning were Dundalk passengers and most Drogheda passengers, some Donabate passengers couldn't get on the train it was so bad. Fair play to the driver though, came on the radio about 4 times to explain what had happened and was very apopogetic.
