Default 12-Jul-07 7:40 Portlaoise- Dublin

Due in Portarlington at 7:51, came in a few minutes late but sat in Portarlington for 30 minutes. No announcements at the station or on board.

Overheard other passengers talking about smoke and a terrible smell (I've been on trains where this happened before but it was always fixed mid-journey). People were outside smoking and said they were told to get on at one point, it was fixed and we'd be off soon.

Told to disembark the train at 8:25 and the 6:35 Limerick train took all the passengers. Arrived about 9:35, apologies announced on board and in Heuston.

Now you see, this is the sort of over the top and ill-informed moaning and bashing of the railways that is rightly criticised on another railway related message board.

I bet you don't take the train at all. I say you tell lies and half truths and that you work for the NRA and that you bash the railways because you hate trains.

I'd also wager that the trian was on time, nothing was wrong, and this is all a fabrication.

Sounds like a siezed set of brakes, horrible burning smell

Typically you aren't going anywhere if that happens unless the coach is removed which is a slow process and I doubt the staff on site could handle that

Usual lack of information situation, no suprises there.

I've been outed as a serial basher

True, I just stay at home every day looking out my back window at the trains fabricating stories about delays and rude staff cos I have no life. And I collect garden gnomes.

Mark - I was definietly on one last summer and there was the smoke and the awful smell and we stopped around Hazelhatch and when we got going after about 30 mins everything was fine but maybe it was somthing else.

It stuck in my mind cos I got off work early and still ended up getting home at the usual time!! (oh noes - more bashing)

Newer trains the problem is more serious, older trains its a crowbar job

Its bad maintenance its a safety critical element to the system, far too many incidents which wouldn't be happening if better proceedures where in place. Remember its all about the little things yes they seem trivial but they make a big difference on the ground
