There are far fewer through services from Mallow to Cobh. The morning and evening rush is still catered for, but otherwise, it's a change at Cork. |

Seeing that there's a theory that Irish Rail senior management read this website, I may as well say it... I was very disappointed they didn't fix up the connection between Dublin-Cork and Cork-Cobh trains in the new timetable. Through the day it's fine with a 10-15 minute gap between the arrival of a train from Dublin and the departure of one to Cobh, then it goes all wrong in the evening with 30+ minute gaps appearing for connections from the 6pm and 7pm from Dublin when these are likely to be the most popular trains from Dublin. If they could throw on one extra train to Cobh and have departures at 9, 10 and 11 (instead of 9:30 and 10:30), the connection would be a lot nicer. |
In the old timetable there's always been a 20:50 service from Mallow to Cork that runs Monday-Thursday. Except it runs on a Friday too, but only unofficially.
Basically, it provides a nice connection from the 18:30 Dublin-Tralee train and on a Friday, this train is so full with Kerry-bound passengers that they don't want people using it to travel to Cork. Ghost services and stops are nothing new to Irish Rail. |
Now that they've moved some of the morning southbound DARTs to five minutes earlier, there's now one southbound DART passing through Connolly in the 35 minute period between 8:51 and 9:25.
The same number as in the 13 minute off peak gap from 10:04 to 10:17. We already know they don't proof-read anything, but does anyone actually bother designing these timetables? Not much point since they never stick to them anyway. |
Apologies if this was mentioned on another thread already but have just seen the new train times from Clonsilla to the Docklands station from March 12th:
AM: Additional services departing Clonsilla: 7.00, 7.45, 8.20, 8.45 PM: Service departing Docklands for Clonsilla: 16.20, 17.10, 17.38, 18.45, 19.20. The 8.20 service should take a lot of pressure off the 8.13 train especially no? And the 17.38 departure should do likewise in the evenings. Here's to happier travelling :D |

One thing I only noticed yesterday was that although there is a 20:30 train from Cork to Dublin from Monday to Saturday, there's none on a Sunday. That seems a bit odd, given that I'd have thought that Sunday evening is busier on that route than most weekday evenings.

Strangely the internal timetable hints that there might be a 6am Dublin Cork as well
If there was a 20:30 ex Cork on a Sunday it would mean a 22:00 out of Dublin since there needs to be 5 sets in Cork at 5am Monday and only 2 in Dublin Sunday is werid its not bad coming into Dublin late evening |
