Question [15/08/2010] 17:50 Tralee-Heuston

My friend was traveling on this service today and as the train was approaching Mallow the driver said that all passengers would have to change train due to a mal function in carrage 3. He also said the train will have to be hauled back to bentier to get an emergency service.

The train was a 3car set.

Any idea of what happened??

Doesn't make much as sense as the 17:50 left Mallow on time and arrived Heuston ontime.

Unclear if trains were changed at Mallow but even if that occurred it was still ontime at Dublin

I also was suprised by this. When they get to Mallow there was a 6car waiting. You can make up about 20 minutes between Kildare and Hueston. The train only had to stop in Limerick Junction and Thurles.

Within Irish Rail's definitions at no point was the train late.

It was 8 minutes down leaving Mallow, 7 at Limerick Junc, 4 at Thurles and appeared to reach Heuston a minute or so early

Why take the train to Banteer for servicing?

As I said it doesn't make sense

It was probably some class of swap to keep the 3 coach set in Kerry.

Next question if a train breaks down and you change trains but arrive on time, is it a cancellation? "operate as planned?"
