It's really shaping up to be a day to forget on the rails.

It started with the 06:15 Cork-Dublin breaking down causing to delays to every Cork/Kerry/Limerick service up to midday.

Then there was the Lansdowne Rd level crossing.

Now the DART being closed.

And I believe there were some kind of delays on the Sligo line this morning.

I certainly wasn't expecting much from the train today and there were some delays for the first two trains coming from Longford this morning thanks to a tree coming down just before Enfield. But considering how much debris came down on the roads in the midlands last night, it wasn't too bad.

Irish Rail were very good and they had it cleared just about in time for the early train from Sligo. I'm normally quite quick to criticise them but I think credit where credit is due on this one.

Seems to have been a massive failure, possibly signalling. No trains going into or out of Pearse in either direction. Southbound DART terminated there. Displays are blank, online real time info static.

EDIT:

IE's twitter:

19:00 Connolly - Belfast is cancelled due to flooding. All Northern Commuter services and DARTs north of Connolly cancelled

Sligo and Maynooth services currently suspended due to flooding at Broombridge

DART services now only operating between Connolly and Lansdowne Road due to flooding at Clontarf Road and Seapoint. DB honouring tickets

UPDATE: All DART services now suspended due to flooding

So as of half 8, literally no trains moving on the Connolly side of the network. Great.

Update:
18.40 Connolly to Drogheda was delayed for 15 mins at Howth Junction due to a signal failure. Headed full speed to Donabate, but stuck there for 40 minutes awaiting an ambulance. Driver only made 1 announcement.
Arrived 1 hour late to Rush and Lusk.
But if IE twitter is correct, things are much worse behind it.
Irish Rail main website (excl. Twitter) has very little on delays.

2 out of service DARTs just rolled north out of Pearse. If they're going to Fairview maybe IE has given up for the night.

EDIT:confirmed

DART services suspended for rest of the evening: focusing on trying to ensure services run in the morning. Dublin Bus accepting rail tickets

IR reported DART, Enterprise and northern suburban services suspended as of 2030 due to flooding in Clontarf ? The place must be wiped out given that the railway is about 20 ft above the general ground level.

Is this the real story or is Irish Rail hiding something else in the general chaos ? They advised NIR earlier that there were signalling problems at Connolly and that this was delaying the departure of the 1900 to Belfast.

Incidentally where would I get the Dublin Bus service for Belfast ?

How come the Realtime search on the IE website still shows some services running via Connolly? Albeit very limited...

I found that strange too....Unless they meant close to Killester??? Went through that area around 7pm with no issues, bar stuck behind a late running DART....

I presume they mean at the golf course, where there is a stream.

Seapoint under *a lot* of water. A mains drain burst through the road on Seapoint Avenue and it's flooding down onto the tracks through some unfortunate persons garden. It's got nowhere to go other than to fill in the cutting, which is lucky for everyone else in the area.

Passengers: This site is being updated every 15 minutes

The Luas Green Line is operating Brides Glen to Beechwood Stop. No service between Beechwood and St Stephen's Green - due to flood waters.

The Red Line is not operating between Saggart stop and Belgard stop.

The Tallaght Red Line is operating Tallaght to Blackhorse stop only. There is no service Blackhorse to Connolly / The Point

This is due to a high level of flood water on parts of the Blackhorse to The Point line and on the Saggart Belgard section.

Passengers who are reading this at Luas stops are aware the stop announcements are not working at every stop - this is weather related too. Maintenance teams are working on this also.

Luas Tickets are valid on Dublin Bus

We sincerely apologise for this service disruption.

It looks like its stopped raining in most of the country, but still bad across most of Ulster.

http://www.met.ie/forecasts/
Quote:
National Forecast

24 October 2011 15:49

Today

Spells of heavy rain affecting Ulster, Leinster and parts of east Munster will clear early tonight. Elsewhere, patches of light rain will soon die out but it will stay cloudy for a time. Isolated showers will develop overnight near western coasts, otherwise there will be clear spells, and fog will form widely inland. Winds will remain light and it will turn cooler. Lowest temperatures 3 to 7 degrees Celsius.

Tomorrow

Fog will clear on Tuesday morning, then occasional showers will affect southern and western counties. However, elsewhere will be mainly dry with sunny intervals. Winds will be light to moderate, south to southwest and temperatures will rise to between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius.

Outlook

Tuesday night will be dry with clear spells and light winds. Cold overnight with lows of 0 to 4 Celsius and widespread ground frost. Cool on Wednesday and Thursday with highs of 9 to 12 Celsius and light to moderate breezes between south and west in direction. Bright or sunny spells on both days, and mostly dry apart from a few scattered showers, but cloud will increase in the west and northwest on Thursday bringing some rain to west Connacht and west Ulster later in the day. Widespread frost on Wednesday night but frost confined to southeastern and some southern parts on Thursday night. A lot of dry bright weather on Friday also, the best of the sunshine in the east and southeast, but increasing cloud and freshening southerly winds will bring rain into the southwest, west and northwest later in the day. Highs 11 to 14 Celsius. Mild and breezy on Friday night with patchy rain or drizzle in places. A bit milder for the weekend with highs of 12 to 14 or 15 Celsius. Breezy on Saturday with persistent rain spreading countrywide during the day, the rain heavy at times in the southwest and west. The rain will clear away eastwards later in the day and overnight to give a brighter day on Sunday with sunny spells and scattered showers but rain likely again Sunday night.

whatever about Seapoint, the cutting at Dun Laoghaire always floods when there's torrential rain (admittedly today seems to have been particularly bad). Have IE done anything to improve things there?
