There are three different issuers of tickets, IE, Dublin Bus and Veoila so certain ones may be ok

Sounds like a software bug in the exit validation gates

There are plenty of those. I get Faircard returns from Sandymount to Cork and about half the time they get rejected as No Valid Route in Connolly on the way back.

An annual ticket of mine failed at the start of August '05 when it was valid till the start of September '05. I too was suspicious.
There was no exit validation then so I just kept the ticket for the month.

Default Bus & train tickets

My annual bus & rail ticket failed when inserted into a validator on a bus a few months back, but continued working in the validators at DART stations. I went back to Abbey Street and got a new one issued, but when I got on the next bus it told me the ticket wasn't valid. I went back to Abbey Street who didn't believe me and sent me out to check in another bus, and they eventually issued me with another ticket. It failed too next time I got on a bus. The front of the ticket clearly shows it is valid for the bus, so I just show it to the driver every time I get on a bus. My only guess is that they incorrectly programmed (3 times) the ticket as a train only one.

One of these days I will summon up the energy to go back in, but for the mean time I am just getting used to the bus validator beeping at me.

Anyone else have this problem with their ticket ?

i have annual bus and luas and i never put it in to the validators. i just show it to the drivers and they nod happily, sometimes pressing a button on their machines

one guy asked me to put it in the machine and i politely asked him if he was sure it wouldn't get stuck in it or ruin it and he smiled and waved me on

Mark,

I used to get some problems with the bus validators - like maybe 1 in 10 failing, but this is now 100% failure for the last 6 weeks or so.

If they keyed in the wrong code the ticket would be flagged as invalid on bus where as a defective ticket or validator will result in the ticket unreadable see driver

This is happening with a number of the combined Bus & Rail yearly tickets issued by Irish rail for January. It's happening to 2 of us in my office so we sent a mail to Irish rail and got this response

Quote:
We've had a problem with some tickets this month. This is being investigated and we hope to resolve this issue soon. The problem appears to be with the station / Bus validating machines.

Your ticket is valid and can be shown at stations and on Dublin bus services until this issue is resolved.

Kind Regards,

As distinct from ticket wrong side up which is normally what the validator says if it can't read it

Yep, my new annual bus/rail from Jan hasn't worked on a bus yet. Works fine on the DART so far.

They seem to have fixed the problem (on commuter tickets anyway). My ticket started validating probably from yesterday evening.
