Default Concern over Inchicore DART plan

Hopefully this is not delay the construction, could be the Carrickmines of the DART project in Dublin?

Hardly. Metro North is knocking 4 houses and a school in Drumcondra and theres very little comment. All Irish Rail are doing is taking some garden.

Cllr Críona Ní Dhalaigh (SF) said it was “outrageous” that Iarnrod Eireann felt it could “impose” a station in the middle of a quiet residential area.
Um, its a railway works.

Storm in a teacup folks - I'd be more concerned about our roads-and-developers obsessed government scratching the project becuase the money's gone. Wouldn't be the first time, particularly for FF.

The people of Inchicore can rest easily

Emmm,
(1) have you looked at the plans?
(2) ever been in the inchicore works estate?

Usual politicians trying to make political capital on this, but I'm not sure the shinners have really grasped the issue.

He has

The residents of Inchicore have long sought a station, these politicians are trouble. The very best place for a station is in a built up urban area. BTW it will be 11 minutes or so to Stephen's Green about 10-16 times an hour at peak

Would that suggest that the Kildare line DART services will be running on the 2 southside tracks of the Kildare route projects 4 tracks?

Yes, but options for it to run on the centre pair are under investigation with some class of underpass at the west of Inchicore

The big hole in the ground for the TBM with associated gantry etc. is located to the right of this picture, in the football pitch. There will be cut and cover from there through to turnback facility which will be located in the 'Gare du Nord' building, marked here as turnback & future DART station

Having the station in Gare du Nord would make it 750-800m away from the built up area of the village of Inchicore

Yeah, some politicians can cause mayhem in the run up to an election when they come with all sorts of statements. I can't see how any politician in Dublin would be against this project in Inchicore. Maybee that particular Sinn Fein politician has had a chance to rethink her position now that she has been elected.

Mark, you're spot on, the residents of Inchicore want this station.

I have met with a local resident about this and there are a few reasonable concerns

There is no perfect location, there are problems with access to the station and disruption when the tunnel is being built

We have submitted a number of observations to Irish Rail on how to solve these issues, many of the issues Irish Rail already have thought of dealing with.

Politicians are trouble, leave the engineers and managers to do their job. The original DART was free of political interference (well it wasn't CIE just faced them down), the Luas was a mess
