![]() There's over 200 houses ready to go in Templemore when the new sewage system gets going. Guess how many of these will go local? Probably shag all.
This will only stop when people simply refuse to move out to places like this whilst keeping their jobs in Dublin. It's bonkers. There is plenty of available land in Dublin, there is no need for people to move down to get affordable housing, except for the fact that the initial price of the land is so high in the city and its environs. To use a football example: Jose Morhinio mentioned at the weekend that "to you this glass of water is £2 million. When Chelsea wants it it is £20 million" The problem is that builders/developers see all potential home buyers in Dublin as Chelsea, that they have bottomless pits of cash, and they can charge stupid prices for houses. This is fuelled by the building societies/banks lending stupid money. It can be easily sorted: a mass building project by the govenment/Dublin city council, you move in, you buy your home out over 20 years. Your money goes to paying off the long term loan the local authority has to take out to pay for it in the first place. There is a constitutional right to own property. There is no such right to screw people. |
