This signal failure seemed to occur early this morning. The 0645 service from Gorey started from Wicklow with passangers south of Wicklow convayed by bus.

KSW did you notice a pilotman at Rathdrum?
I would say that is the reason the 0850 from Gorey was held in Arklow so long was that the pilotman was at the wrong end of the line.

As usual Irish Rail said nothing of the problems, if you where delayed by more than an hour a 50% refund is in order

There is a history of vandalism particularly in the Rathdrum area which could be at fault. The new signaling system has been fairly robust, its not flawless but it is massively safer than the one in replaced which relied heavily on humans to take safety critical choices with minimal verification

That could be the reason alright. Rathdrum station has been unmanned since the new signalling system was put in place. The station seems to be attacked by the grafitti artists on a regular basis. With the station so far from the town it would be easy to cause damage without getting noticed.

Yes I dod notice the pilotman at Rathdrum. All the signals were yellow yesterday down along the line. I seen IE workmen nearly all the way down the track.
