Resumption of services
Does anyone know when the Waterford to Limerick junction service will resume?

The line has been completely closed between Tipperary and Clonmel for track relaying these last few weeks. Also there has been extensive relaying work near Nenagh on the North Tipp line.
The cynic in me says that this is bad news as money spent on such things can be used as evidence of really big losses. On the other hand it would be unlikely that a Green minister for transport would countenance rail closures. But maybe he is more interested in bicycles rather than trains. Seriously though, I would imagine that when other lines revert to normal timetables the North and South Tipperary lines will resume services. |

Thanks. These track improvements can only be a good thing for both lines. Should lead to less speed restrictions and faster journey times and who knows maybe an extra service in each direction.
Hopefully services resume before the summer is out. |

We have been unable to get any clarity on getting full service back up and running.
The relaying appears to be proper new track not panels recovered from elsewhere

I have heard that the Waterford-Limerick line will reopen on the 31st of August.
Can anyone here confirm if this is true or not? |

For some time the journey planner has been showing that the service will resume with the 07.20 train ex Waterford next Monday, 31st August, 2020.
Hopefully both IÉ and the NTA are ensuring that will happen. |

Good to see this line (and the Nenagh line?) re-open. A great piece of mixed messaging when combined with Government advice to avoid public transport where possible.
Trains on this line are usually lightly loaded so personal distancing should be no problem: certainly orders of magnitude better than a bus. |

On the Irish Rail website, I am able to book tickets for the Nenagh line and the Waterford-Limerick line for the 31st of August or later.
This could mean that both will reopen on that date. |

This morning (0930 Aug 31) the IE website has a timetable section announcing resumption of full services from to-day. However the PDF timetables are still the temporary ones dating from early August

Situation rectified now (1140am). I see that most Dublin-Cork services are slower, especially in the down direction from Mallow to Cork. A new outbreak of timetable padding?

Short term i'd say. Lot of track renewal on down line between Hazelhatch-Kildare due to take place and Ballast cleaning restarts which will have restrictions every few weeks. Lot of services losing 4+ minutes at Sallins over the past week, a Mark IV will take longer to recover and if you add a second further down the line.

So the delays are in Kildare, but the padding is added between Mallow and Cork.
Isn't it great when punctuality is only measured at the terminus station? |

Other routes can claw back most of the time lost when they cross trains on single routes as the trains crossing will have a few extra minutes on the schedule to facilitate the crossing. Will this help the OTP stats yes however considering 10 minutes after scheduled arrival is on time not sure it will have a major impact overall other than save customer service responding to delay complaints.
