Default [15/10/2010] Incident at Tara St involving the 12.05 Arklow train

I was on the 12.05 Connolly to Arklow service. The train made a sudden stop just before Tara St leaving the last 2 cars off the platform. Shortly after the train stopped the ticket inspector hurried towards the front of the train.

After about 10 minutes an announcement was made that the train had been involved in a serious incident and there would be a long delay.

Gardai and ambulance crews soon arrived. Passengers for Bray and Greystones were taken off the train through the front car by the ticket inspector and all trains were using the northbound platform at this stage.

The ticket inspector regularly walked around the train keeping us up to date with what was happening. Our train finally left Tara St at 13.32 but only went as far as Rathdrum where there was a 20 minute wait for the 13.30 Rosslare service.

I thought IE handled the incident very well. We were regularly kept up to date and everyone was given a refund application form.

according to a post on boards.ie someone jumped the tracks. Damaged their leg apparently. Thankfully the train was stopping at Tara street, otherwise they would have had no hope!

From what I saw the man was treated for head injuries and his arm looked in a bad way.
