Seapoint Station
After a 8 year wait work has finally got underway at Seapoint station
Sometime early on Sunday 7th December the foot bridge at Seapoint was craned out and a new temporary bridge was brought into use at the north end of the station As is typical the original plans to build a proper modern station (which had planning permission) have been junked in favour of a cheap and nasty rebuild which will be incredibly tight on space. Of course there is no notice on the Irish Rail website telling you this is ongoing, or of the rather long roundabout walk you have to make (its going to get longer shortly) to get to the southbound platform. And the notice at the station gives no indication of duration

Looks like they are almost finished, so much for the March finish date
Hoarding finally came down on the southbound side this morning. The new bridge is complete and the lighting has been installed The number of people walking across the track is getting crazy, the temporary bridge is interesting construction being lob sided and the steps not being flat

If people are crossing the tracks, are enforcement or engineering measures needed?

It still happens though! Of course there have been a few of these incidents at Castleknock in the past few weeks involving local youths crossing the tracks one of which forced the driver of a maynooth-bound commuter train to slow down and beep the horn repeatedly. |

No what they needed was a bridge that was located such as to give the shortest walk to the exit, we got that today only 5 months late

Do you mean the lip I have circled here?
If thats what you mean, its probably against the Building Regualtions - all steps to be the same size and no "surprise" steps. http://www.railusers.ie/forum/attach...5&d=1252166334

That breaks more rules than you can shake a stick at.

The RSC are looking into it.
Quite a few other issues have arisen as well with the station, problems with lighting and other safety/security issues. The northbound stairs and booking hall where in darkness last night. Needless to say we have had written correspondance with Irish Rail in the recent past, but the response time is crazy until something is done.

So here is the situation on Friday night, they finally installed the two missing lamp posts, but then left the bridge in total darkness

The fun continues, the booking office has been gutted by the builders, despite the plans showing it was to remain where it was
Ticket vending machine is unavailable as well as a result. The southbound platform display has given up again

Still no booking office, looks like it will be one of the split height counters if it is ever finished
