Default [27-3-2006] Kildare & Newbridge Timetable Changes

Today marked the day of Note A, that is to say the new early morning Waterford service began

Side effect of this for Kildare and Newbridge should be

1) The 5:30 ex Cork no longer stops Kildare or Newbridge
2) The 5:05 ex Waterford train stops Kildare 7:54 & Newbridge 8:01
3) There should be more seats for all as a result
4) The 5:30 ex Cork should actually arrive Heuston at 8:30

What do you expect the morning after a public meeting with Irish Rail is always pants , eg last Friday

The new Waterford train hasn't been without its troubles. The problem in Kildare and Newbridge is the inability to recognise which train is which as many will say the train from x was delayed when in fact it wasn't that train

The signalling from Clondalkin to Cherryville is to be replaced as part of the Kildare route project

I am aware that the Waterford train was heavily delayed yesterday arrving at 9:05

Many in Kildare thought the Waterford train was late earlier in the week but it would appear it was a train from Portlaois on time that showed up before. Yes Waterford train late but the train that showed up was itself on time

OK, so in a busy through-station like Kildare, WHY don't station staff announce that the next train arriving on Platform 'X' is the 06:40 or whatever from Waterford, or wherever. Surely THEY must know what trains are (supposed to be) running through their cute little station?

The staff don't know themselves, unlike the DART and Northern line they don't have a real time display in the booking office

But if Kildare is such a major through station (commuter an long distance), wouldn't it make sense to have real time displays (at least for IE staff)?
I mean, they're in place at bus stops the world over!

And it's not like IE have that many trains to track (pardon the pun) anyway; the fact they actually run so few trains (through Kildare, and on their inter city network) is the very logic they offer as a defense when accused of not providing sufficient services. So really if they (or their staff) claim they don't know which train is which, that is not reassuring, is it? A cheap fix would be to use destination boards on the side of the first car, like they do elsewhere, until they realize liquid display is also pratically in everyone's living room!
Does it always have to be so painful in Ireland?

The crew at the signalling centre (CTC) have real time location of every train, when things are in the right order its no problem know which train is which the junctions at Portarlington and Cherryville can lead to trains swapping places, gaps between trains can be as low as 5 minutes. You can't read the signalling panel unless you know the train id's

Destination boards are little use inbound, its the stopping pattern and we all know how reliable IE are with them anyway

Staff in Kildare and Newbridge work by either ringing CTC or being rung by CTC. CTC also can make a PA locally. A real time platform display is going to be fitted

There are other issues, calling a train the x:xx from y makes little sense its the 8:01 to Dublin
