Cork services returning to normal by Press Office
UPDATE 22.30HRS
Due to the derailment of a freight train, Heuston-Cork rail services this evening (Wednesday 5th July) have been operating between Heuston and Mallow, with bus transfers between Mallow and Cork.
Services affected were:
17.00hrs Heuston to Cork
19.00hrs Heuston to Cork
19.30hrs Cork to Heuston
Also, Mallow to Cork commuter services are suspended, with bus transfers substituting.
The 21.00hrs Heuston to Cork will operate normally, as one line is being reopened, with the second line due to reopen overnight.
Tomorrow's services (Thursday 6th July) will operate normally.
The freight train involved was an empty cement train, with ten wagons. One bogie (set of wheels) on one wagon derailed as the train left the goods yard, and the train was brought to a halt in the tunnel north of Kent Station. The incident happened at low speed, and there was no injury to staff, and no other train was involved.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
Iarnród Éireann apologises for the inconvenience caused.

There seems to be a lot of derailments with cement wagons, though these are different from the Cahir accident
