Default Advice needed Drogheda-Dublin.

Hi can anyone help me please. I wish to start commuting by train from Drogheda to Dublin daily. I have never used the service before.

I need to be in work between 8am-8.30am. I work in Artane so im guessing if i get off at Howth junction/Donaghmede this would be the best option?

Is there a bus link from this station that would bring me to or near Artane?

How much would a weekly/monthly rail ticket cost?

How long would the journey take?

Any help would be great.Thanks.

Where in Artane? A street name would help

Rahney and Kilester are the best options for bus connections generally on the northside

17A from Howth Junction would get you close enough, also 104 from Kilester

17A probably best as its one less change though it would be a longer walk from the Bus to Artane shopping centre. Say 5-10 minutes walk at each end, 15-20 minutes on the bus from Howth Junction

Sadly you can't get a bus/rail ticket from Drogheda to cover this

Advisable to get a Drogheda Dublin rail ticket so you have multiple options on the bus, eg 27b from City Centre

Howth Junction isn't a nice place to be after dark

Note that Dublin bus services on the Malahide Road corridor are in a process of change.

Only the Dublin Bus 20b drops you at Artane Castle, the rest drop you to the Malahide Road near the Kilmore Road junction (Goblet pub), 8 minutes walk away. Artaine Castle is at that nuisance distance from the railway where its a fair walk, but not quite worth getting a bus.

l suggest getting the train to Harmonstown or Killester and walking if you are happy with a 20-25 minute walk.

--------------------------------------------------

There are a number of points where you can change from rail to bus.

Malahide (6 arrivals from Drogheda by 8.03am) and get Dublin Bus route 42 (20-25 minute frequency for most of the day). Bus stop outside station, but its a long bus trip, with poor bus frequency. Poor option, but useful if there is a problem on the line south of Malahide

Clongriffen (4 arrivals from Drogheda by 8am, but change at Malahide) and get Dublin Bus route 128 (10 minute frequency for most of the day). Bus stop outside station. Good bus option.

Howth Junction (5 arrivals from Drogheda by 8am, but one needs a change at Malahide) and get Dublin Bus route 17a (10-20 minute frequency for most of the day). Bus stop outside station. 14 minute walk from Kilmore Road / Tranquility Grove to Artane Castle. http://maps.google.ie/maps?f=d&sourc...,0.017982&z=15 Alternatively change bus to any city-bound bus at Coolock and get off by the Goblet (8 minute walk). Good bus option.

Harmonstown (4 arrivals from Drogheda by 8am, but change at Malahide) and get Dublin Bus route 42a (60 minute frequency for most of the day) to Donnycarney Church (15 minute walk or change to 20b bus) or bus route 42b (20 minute frequency for most of the day) to the Goblet pub. Bus stop on Harmonstown Road, away from station. Alternatively a 25 minute walk. http://maps.google.ie/maps?f=d&sourc...3&ie=UTF8&z=14 Combined best walking option Poor bus option.

Killester (4 arrivals from Drogheda by 8am, but change at Malahide) and walk (22 minutes). Alternatively get Dublin Bus route 42a or 104 (60 minute frequency each for most of the day). Bus stop at Collins Avenue East. Dublin Bus route 105 no longer runs. Best option is to walk. http://maps.google.ie/maps?f=d&sourc...3&ie=UTF8&z=14 Combined best walking option Poor bus option.

Clontarf Road (4 arrivals from Drogheda by 8am, but change at Malahide) and get Dublin Bus route 20b (drops you to Artane Castle, but makes a detour, probably more practical to use the other routes), 27/b, 42/a/b, 43, 128 (combined very high frequency for most of the day). Bus stop at Fairview. Not a great option as you are doubling back. Second best wheelchair / luggage / buggy option with longer walk, but shorter bus/train.

Connolly (4 arrivals from Drogheda by 8am) and get Dublin Bus route 20b (drops you to Artane Castle, but makes a detour, probably more practical to use the other routes), 27/b, 42/a/b, 43, 128 (combined very high frequency for most of the day) + 8 minute walk. Bus stop opposite Connolly Luas. Not a great option as you are doubling back, but means you can use Enterprise if traveling later in the day. Possibly best wheelchair / luggage / buggy option with shorter walk, but longer bus/train.

Default or....

buy a foldup bike.

06:54 from Drogheda to Malahide - 07:21
07:30 from Malahide to Killester - 07:47

10 mins on the bike to Artaine Castle.

The buses aren't the best around there.
