![]() I've noticed RPU staff watching the gate lines at main stations lately for tailgating, and challenging passengers who skip in behind someone else. They're also spotting misuse of child tickets. Can only be a good development.

![]() Mind you, some of the people tailgating have annual Bus and Rail tickets that wont work in the turnstiles!

![]() They've no excuse at the city centre stations where there is permanent staff presence at the turnstiles and they will manually let people through.
Nor for that matter is there much of an excuse anywhere else as bus/rail tickets are issued as smartcards now and presumably one can exchange them. |

![]() They had someone caught at lansdowne.
she was trying to tell your man that she lost her ticket on the way. Your man was giving her a chance by ringing around other stations to see if it was handed in |

The bus smartcard element of my ticket prevents me using it at rail turnstiles. I have had to tailgate recently when the staff member on duty has been absent. Its rare, but it happens. |

![]() All dublin bus / rail tickets issued since August 1st are smartcard, unlike pure rail only tickets they must be issued for a year
Obviously by end Feb 2010 the vast majority will be smartcard tickets as November/December/January is the peak annual ticket sales time

My point is there is still a fair few Bus/Rail issued pre august 2010 in circulation, and that they dont work in turnstiles. Hence the need to tailgate in certain situations ![]() |

![]() Over the past couple of weeks I've seen several people trying to slip through the manned gate at Connolly either without tickets or with invalid tickets.
It's caused pile ups now and then as everyone is sailing through and then suddenly bang everyone has to stop while the offender is called back through the gates. I'm only using that gate myself as my annual rail ticket has stopped 'swiping' and I havent been down there at a suitable time to get it replaced.

![]() If you need a replacement phone up the taxsaver people and they might be able to arrange something for you
They do open at 8:30am and are based within 30 seconds of the side entrance There is an ongoing operation to nail tailgaters without tickets and it has been quite successful
