![]() So just wondering after the bank holiday closures, what was delivered/installed? Both sides of my journeys today were in darkness, so did not see much on the Northern Suburban line. All the signal foundation metal frames were already in place, so I was expecting the actual signals to be installed, especially north of Connolly up to Killester. But they still seem empty. Any thoughts?
What about Clongriffen, and the new platform? Thanks in advance...

![]() As far as I can ascertain the following works were carried out over the weekend
1) Renewal of crossovers immediately south of Connolly. 2) Commissioning of new signalling arrangements between Malahide and Killester, including the bringing into use of a 3rd platform at Clongriffin. The potentially useful 4th platform at Clongriffin (southbound loop) appears to have been abandoned indefintely. 3) The road over-bridge at the north end of Rush and Lusk has been renewed and widened. ![]() The signalling is fully live
The plan was always for 3 platforms at Clongriffin, the 4th is built but the civil works not undertaken. This is passive provision for the plans for a DART airport link. Developer paid for the station anyway not that that matters now! The crossovers beyond 5/6/7 were replaced but not the connection at 5/6/7 that will be another closure probably at the same time as the Connolly stage, would imagine the Tara Street crossovers will be replaced then also

![]() It still staggers me that the crossovers were located at Clongriffen in such a way to prevent the loop platform being accessed from the Malahide direction.
It's a truly classic example of how not to design a station for maximum efficiency. |

![]() Clongriffin is an opportunity lost, a long loop on the inbound side would have allowed faster trains overtake DART. Combined with the shorter signalling sections such over-taking movements would impact little on the slower DART service.
Despite a three day total closure the 40 mph speed limit through Clongriffin remains and a new "temporary" 60 mph restriction has been applied just north of Howth Junction. These are in addition to other speed rrestrictions at Killester and Malahide. Still I suppose it doesn't matter much as averaging anything much faster than 30 mph in either direction between Connolly and Malahide is comparatively rare. Incidentally, due to widespread service disruption, Clongriffin loop was used at least once yesterday for overtaking in the outbound direction. |
