Trains to drumcondra saturday evening for dublin and tyrone
Got to clonsilla for the 17.22 to pearse. The station was packed and the ticket office was open. The six car train arrived packed already and left seriously overcrowded. People left behind and next train not for a half an hour. Not a good omen for the soccer and rugby.

One thing is for sure ie were not ready for this. Got the evening sligo to dublin train at clonsilla this evening was a four car train and stopped at all stations. Same story train dangerously overcrowded people shoving their way on driver unable to close doors. Drumcomdra was a health and safety issue. Massive queue of people on the platform waiting to exit. Hope it is better going good

My Head hurts...
The recent CLG PR stunt whereby the shelving of the dedicated Big Event Park n Ride proposal was given a make-over only to reappear in the guise of a Leaflet. No ordinary leaflet mind you,but one extolling the virtue of Public Transport as the prime means of getting to and from Croker. To this end we have nicely drawn maps of the area complete with Rail Stations,Luas Stops,Bus Route groupings and the ringing endorsement that None of these is more than 15 mins from the Stadium. The reality tonight was somewhat more pedantic as we had the usual 20 Gardai stationed at the top of Clonliffe Rd,each member having a totally different perception of the order of the day. One Gard calling drivers on,another stopping the same driver with a reproving hand signal etc. Additionally the Traffic Signals are left switched on just to add another layer of uncertainty to thing. Interestingly and typically Irish, given the presumed intention to INCREASE Public Transport useage among Crok Park goers, there were NO additional measures to prioritise or assist either the Bus or Rail services. This means that northbound buses from the City Centre continue to use the single stop directly outside DrumC Station which Of course adds greatly to the chaos as the Rail Users spill out through the single door. There are now several newly installed Parking Bays along the newly refurbished Drumcondra Rd. Big Fixture days (and Nights) see these valuable spaces totally reserved for cars, vans, rickshaws etc..in fact ANYTHING except a Bus. If ever there was a reason for adding a pedestrian footbridge to the current Railway one then this is it !! There is absolutely NO point in attempting to sucker any more users onto Public Transport to Croker unless the organizers are prepared to offer a small bit more REAL priority to the breed. The reality remains as before....The considerable resourses of CLG and An Garda Siochana remain focused on getting Private Cars into and out of the tomfool entrance to Clonliffe College`s lucrative field of dreams. I just don`t want to see this codswallop continually presented as something to be proud of. I would far prefer if the higher echelons of both CLG and An Garda Siochans were brought to ANY half decent UK League fixture and to be forced to watch how the UK Police and Local Authorities cooperate and successfully run their crowd and traffic control. |
