Newbridge Rail Group (NRG) Press Release
Rail users in Newbridge and Sallins will from today take part in a survey commissioned by Dublin Transport Authority to gauge the shortcomings of their stations and its environment. The Dublin Transport Authority identified both stations as being of strategic importance to the future development of transport to and from our nations' capital.

The Dublin Transport Authority is expected to use the results to formulate a plan for the future development of both stations.

NRG, Newbridge Rail Group, are delighted to announce that from today Irish Rail will start work to expand the overcrowded car park, increasing its capacity by a further 60 spaces and will include a new pedestrian walkway. This development was the culmination of considerable protest at a public meeting held last March with the Management of Irish Rail and subsequent regular contact by NRG.

Commenting on these developments, Sean Meenan, a member of NRG said, "We are encouraged that the Dublin Transport Authority has taken note of the increasing volume of people commuting from Newbridge to Dublin and we will follow up with them to assess the survey results. We are very pleased that the car park overcrowding at Newbridge Station is now being addressed and commend Irish Rail for their part in trying to accommodate our requirements. To date, Irish Rail have re-opened our waiting room and installed additional CCTV security and we are in ongoing discussions with them to improve car park lighting, to provide extra platform shelters and further bicycle sheds."

Saw the work going on today. Looks like it won't take long. Pedestrain access is badly needed and I am glad to hear it will be provided.

Out of interest, how come there is no shop in the Newbridge station? I know there is one in Carlow. The IE website claims there is a shop.

Irish Raill have advised of plans to either create a permanent shop premises on Platform 2 or to have a temporary "man on bicycle" type of shop for teas, coffees and newspapers. It will depend on what level of interest they get for either option. The temporary "man on bicycle" is currently operating in Kildare station accordingto Irish Rail. NRG have approached local newsagents about running this service, so watch this space!

At a public meeting in Templemore tonight, Myles McHugh from IE,took a very unfair liberty, when he claimed that he set up both NRG and KRUG. The people involved with both groups put in a very big effort to create themselves. P11 assisted where possible. Myles McHugh turned up to a meeting and kept in touch afterwards.

He did not set up these user groups and his remarks tonight are disrespectful to those that did.

There hasn't been any work for the past few days due to people parking in the way of access points to the building site in the mornings. A poster I saw today threatened that if people keep parking there, work "will have to be cancelled"!

Well if they fixed the car park and marked it out correctly they wouldn't have so many troubles, or shock horror an IE employee could be on duty to supervise the situation to ensure that parking remains legal

Sad fact is most of these works where promised in March to be complete within 3 months its now 6 months on and we all know it would have been easier during the summer

The problem seems to be that the early commuters come in before the station worker arrives and park in the old parking spaces which can't be used at the moment, as they block access for the builders. This problem could easily be halted by simply placing cones in the relevant parking spaces, but it seems that a little poster threatening cancellation of work suffices.

Okay well it seems that work is complete. The new area of the carpark will not be tarmacadamed (spelling ?) or marked. Rather it is just an area of stones.

At least more people get to park there, eh? Pitty such a shoddy job was done. You'd swear IE went for the cheapest option. Dig out a slope and throw stones on the ground.

Are you sure the stones aren't just the base for the tarmacadam? Or were cars parked on the stones and all construction kit off-site?

All construction kit and cones etc are no longer to be seen. Nothing that indicates any work is still to be done is at the station. Cars have been parked on the stones all week.
