[28-11-11] 18:05 Portlaoise delayed 40 mins due Hot Axle
This evening the 18:05 to Portlaoise was delayed by 40 minutes following a Hot Axle detection near Straffan. The train stopped for 20 mins near Straffan and a further 10mins at Newbridge and traveled at max 50mph.
The driver provided full and detailed information at every stage explaining the reasons for the stop and why there were delays. After the Hot Axle detection, safety procedures dictated that the train had to be examined, then followed a precautionary 10 miles at 50mph followed by another inspection. Of course several other trains were delayed - 1810 Newbridge 1830 Westport, 1835 Waterford and 1840 Portlaoise. While the delay was annoying, the full information from the driver was a great help. PS: Should this forum not be called All stops to Portlaoise now that the Thurles service was terminated at the last timetable? |

I was on the 18:35 to Waterford and we got no information apart from one announcement that said that the train ahead had problems but the driver understood them to be sorted (which they weren't because we were held up for another 20 minutes after that).
