I'm not sure about that. From Newbridge, my tax saver ticket costs 4 euro a day. Petrol for a return trip to Dublin is at least 10 euro. The quickest you can get to Heuston Station from Newbridge assuming no traffic and obeying speed limits is about 45 minutes (and that's before you hit the quays). In traffic that can be up to 90 minutes. Train takes as little as 30 minutes and as many as 45.
When you think about it, the parking charges would add 33% onto my fare if I used it (I walk ~20 minutes most days), but I don't. It's still cheaper and quicker than the car.
