I wouldn't call a phobia about changing trains in Ireland misplaced. Whatever your chances are of arriving at your destination in an reasonable timeframe when using one train, you can forget about it if there is a second train involved.
Plus Irish Rail will usually manage to leave you standing on a freezing platform in driving rain in the middle of nowhere with no idea of when they are going to rescue you.
Then for a laugh the train will pull into a different platform with the destination showing as "Ulan Bator" and promptly burst into flames.
After about three hours, the announcer will apologise for operational difficulties in a language that sounds vaguely like Klingon.
