A number of key bridges are closed and several main roads in and out of the county are no longer passable and the worst hit areas continue to be Ballinsaloe, Portumna, Claregalway and Kiltartan near Gort.

In Ballinsaloe, flood levels in parts of the town have dropped by three inches overnight but there is still very serious flooding in housing estates on the outskirts of the town.

Ballinsaloe railway station is open but can only be reached by army trucks and transport vehicles as the road between the town and railway station is flooded.
