You should read the 'Faerie Queen'.. Ok it's 400 years old but it's based on English perceptions of Ireland. The author was nearly topped by Fiach Mac Aodh in Glenmalure.

Point is it was at a time where Ireland's future was seen as a playground for the English. I'm not sure trainspotters, even those from England quite have that in mind, but your opinions do have a historical resonance even if you are angry that oul' Britannia abandoned us...
