Hey all
anyone seen the RPA add on P13 of todays IT?

big crayon mark from drumcondra to DCU as discussed right here in P11 forums

proposes a station in the middle of Griffith Ave which is not all that clever as just one bus goes down there but i suppose the integration achieved at drumcondra makes that less relevant

also mentions "replacing the Trinity and upper oconnell st stations on the central route with a single lower oconnell station close to the luas red line"

all sounds quite good actually!!

Just looking at it now,

Looks pretty good, the Drumcondra stop seems to be just north of the IE station starting where the road gets very wide around the Archbishops house, a lot of room there to stick in a station box methinks.
Says they are still accepting submissions till the 30th June, is there a need for me as a Maynooth user to make a submission or have Mark and Phillip said all that needs to be said?

Looks quite good, but I note that the station at Drumcondra is a bit north of the current rail station, making it even further from the Midland line.

I would suggest that the station be built between the two rail lines, to make connection to both as easy as possible. As far as I understand, the intention is for the station box to be under Drumcondra Road, so there should be no major technical reason that it can't be between the two lines.

Also, connections should be made possible without having to leave one station building and enter the other.

All looks very positive, though.

The station positions are not fixed yet but Drumcondra needs to move

On the Trinity stop we know it shouldn't go in and it appears the Tara Street fascination seems to be dead and in doing so they get around TCD's objection

If people are going to discuss technical engineering issues with respect to the metro please do so on the members board for the purpose where most of it has been discussed

The P11 position is we are happy with the city centre routings, if built as proposed and with particular emphasis on Drumcondra it will be a very impressive transport system. We are very happy to see this mornings notice from the RPA, there are still issues with the city centre area but still it is getting very close to the ideal, it looks to be a very passenger friendly setup with multiple interchange points and good intergration with all modes

All the technical stuff has been moved to the members section. P11 members can continue there. Please keep technical conversation to a minimum on the public sections.

Thanks for posting the map Philip. Great to see what we were talking about coming to fruition. Station locations are the next battle.

RPA reveals new metro line option

The RPA, the Railway Procurement Agency has revealed a fourth metro line option, which would incorporate the areas of Croke Park and DCU on the proposed line linking Swords and Dublin airport with St Stephen's Green.


The alternative route, which combines the proposed east and central route, was unveiled by the RPA yesterday so that the public may make informed submissions before the conclusion of the consultation process on June 30th.

Before the start of the public consultation process in February, the RPA had favoured the central route, which would operate via Glasnevin and Botanic Road and service DCU.

An east route, through Drumcondra and Santry, and a west route through Cabra and Finglas, had also been put out to public consultation.

The alternative route that has now emerged would effectively combine the east and central route and involve an underground section from Drumcondra to DCU and provide for a station in Drumcondra, on Griffith Avenue and at DCU.

During the consultations, a proposal to replace the Trinity and Upper O'Connell Street station on the central route with a single Lower O'Connell Street station close to the Luas Red Line also emerged. Surface or underground sections as an alternative to elevated sections were also proposed.

The Metro North is planned to come into service in 2012.
