[Letter] Gauging the DART problem

John Stafford ( Letters, May 11 ) makes the point that the linking of the Dart, LUAS and proposed Metro lines can never happen because of track gauge differences, but he doesn't consider the impracticality of linking these systems.

Currently the Dart line is shared by the Maynooth commuter trains, the northern commuter trains and trains to the south and Rosslare. This is a logistical nightmare and leaves people waiting on platforms because of signalling and safety issues.

Following on from this, to share the Dart line with the LUAS and the Metro would surely cause chaos, having five systems working on just one track.

I would argue that integrated stations where people change to different lines is what is required to allow for the independent running of these systems on tracks that are solely for their use.
Track gauge is an irrelevant part of this equation.
