Travel centre gone?
 

This is going to sound like a stupid question for a first post (sorry), but is it possible to purchase a monthly commuter ticket at stations, or do you have to call the Intercity Sales Office to get one? According to the Irish Rail website that's the only place to get them but since I don't trust any information on that website I thought I'd ask people who probably know what they're talking about!

Prior to this I used to get my monthly tickets in the Travel Centre in Abbey Street in Dublin, but I was passing there yesterday to get my January ticket only to see it's closed down.

You can purchase any ticket up to monthly at any staffed station.

...or should be able to as long as the booking office staff know the code for that ticket.

Well I can't say that I will miss the CIE Travel Centre - hopefully the building belonged to CIE and they will get the proceeds of the sale. Is it too much to hope that the ridiculous travel centre at Cork Station - formerly the best railway buffet in the country - will close too? :D

Cork is already gone I think

The customer service at Abbey Street was utterly appalling, had some interesting times there. Staff had serious trouble issuing even simple intercity tickets.

The Cork travel centre moved from Patrick Street (where it got, I suspect, all of 10 customers a day) to Kent Station. Last I checked it was still going there. I'll put my head in when I'm passing through this evening.

I would be surprised if the Travel Centre in Cork Station gets 10 people in a week! It was an absolute disgrace doing away with the buffet. If I lived in Cork I would make a point of bringing in food and eating it in the travel centre. However, because nobody complains passenger facilities continue going to pot. For all its architectural grandeur Cork station, and its staff, are about as unwelcoming to the travelling public as Coolmine! :(

The place on Abbey Street says it's permanently closed as of 23/12.

If the Abbey St place is gone, where are people supposed to exchange their annual tickets when they stop working in 2 weeks?

In theory there is a form you can get at any staffed station, complete your details and hand the form in and head office send the ticket back to the station you choose for collection

In practice my gf tried that about 3 times last year but no one in the station knew what she was talking about. Quelle surprise!!

As with everything in Irish Rail it probably exists but staff haven't been trained

Leaving you without your ticket for a fortnight or so...

You keep the damaged one until the replacement one arrives so you can still travel
