Annual Taxsaver Ticket Bus V Rail

I just totted up the cost of travelling from Celbridge to Dublin( Heuston), as regards whether one travels by bus or rail. By Bus the annual ticket will cost €980, whereas if one travels by train the cost will be €1030 + car parking charges, will bring this up to approx. €1400. Even with the saving on tax, this is a remarkable turnoff for rail users, it makes the adverts for rail travel now being aired a complete farce.

Expect the bus ticket price to rise also, if not soon, certainly by the usual increase in February.

Celbridge is a bit of a bus nightmare. How does service on the bus compare to train? Now and when the KRP is complete?

Note a train-only ticket will only get you to Heuston - so it will depend on how far you want to go.

€980 is the November 2008 price

:o How is bus+rail cheaper than rail?

Bus only is €980
Rail only is €1030
Combined ticket is €1130

All apply from Nov 1st

It takes approx 1 1/2 hours to commute by bus, to and from Celbridge, due to intermittent bus lanes. The train is a better option, however now with pay parking (at the station) due to start on Mon next, it will be lot more expensive to travel by rail. I regard the timing of this pay parking as very unfair as the feeder bus service only operates during peak hours and will not be able to cope with additional passengers as it only holds about 20 people. However IR's attitude seems to be 'let's screw (excuse the expression) the passengers for every last cent we can get out of them'
