New logo?
Just been looking at a few of the new route timetable PDFs.
I notice the title section/page of each carries what appears to be a new logo. From left to right the logo consists of a green triangle, a white rectangle and an orange triangle. Essentially the tricolour. Is this a new company logo or just a logo for displaying on timetables/publicity? Personally there's a lot of low value items I'd like to see but a new logo isn't one of them (no disrespect to designers who innovatively design such logos). (I did a forum search before posting this to see if it had been previously discussed) |
We have been advised that the irishrail.ie wavy logo is on the way out

Thanks for the update.

is this to do with the Irish version of the company name not being present in the old logo and militant gealgoirs getting upset? Iarnrod Eireann is now more prominent than Irish Rail in the new logo.
As an aside I don't particularly like the new logo. It looks a bit amateurish. |
Fiddling while Rome burns I think. At this stage you will see about five different logos on any given train journey (not including national development plans, transport for ireland, etc.). You get CIE, the old IR track logo, the IE one, the swooshy one and this new nothing one. The new one will reproduce very poorly in black and white material. Only full-colour will work with it.
It is absolute madness given the state of things that Irish Rail is spending money having new logos designed. It might not be a lot of money in the bigger scheme of things but it is completely self-defeating. The purpose of marketing is to generate positive customer sentiment yet the only sentiment this would generate is that Irish Rail are wasting money. |

I wonder how this will go down on any train that ends up in Belfast.

Does this mean the Dart and Commuter 'wavy' logos will also be replaced?

To put it more simply, the new logo looks lovely on the Sligo timetable and goes especially well with the new narrow format resulting from the two services a day each way being dropped. (well one to Longford only and the other to Sligo).
