Maynooth line- level crossing incident?

Does anyone know the nature of the incident this morning at the Reilly's Bridge level crossing (XG002) over Ratoath Road, between Ashtown and Broombridge?

There were Gardai, IR security and repair people present for the morning and evidence of shattered timber, indicating that the level crossing gates were broken down, either from the rail or road direction.

Its almost certainly a car taking a chance at closing gates, long history of motorist aggression at this location

Do you know for certain?

If a train hit the gates the train would have to remain where it stopped until the safety people give it the once over and they ain't known for being quick

A train striking a level crossing is nearly always reported in the media, a car hitting a level crossing is so frequent it rarely gets a mention

Gardai have been called to Reilly's gates in the past following a motorist having a go at the crossing keeper

isn't there a project (presumably delayed due to the economy) to grade separate that particular crossing?

The project is with the National Transport Authority, who are waiting on Budget 2013 to know if they will be in a position to fund the works in early 2013.
