Cold tonight with clear periods and scattered heavy showers with a slight risk thunder near some eastern coasts. Overnight lows of 1 to 4 degrees with patches of fog and frost developing but clearing gradually during Wednesday morning. Outlook

HEADLINE : Unsettled and changeable weather continuing for the rest of the week and over the weekend. On Wednesday night, there will be further outbreaks of showery rain in parts of Ulster and Connacht, especially near Atlantic coasts, but most other areas will be dry, with clear spells. Cold. Min. 2 to 5 Celsius, leading to a slight grass frost in places. Winds mostly light to moderate southwesterly, slackest in Munster and south Leinster, with a risk of fog.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy in eastern coastal areas, with occasional rain and with a risk of the odd heavy burst. Winds here mostly light to moderate northeast or variable. Over the rest of the country, winds will be light to moderate westerly or variable and it will be brighter and mainly dry, with sunny spells and just a few scattered showers. Max. 9 to 11 Celsius. Cold overnight, with some grass frost.

On Friday, it will become milder. Eastern areas will be mainly dry, but rain will spread from the Atlantic, accompanied by strong southerly winds and gales at sea. The weekend will be mild, but unsettled, with further spells of wet and windy weather at times.

Based on Monday's and Tuesday's events, there are specific risks to the following areas.

Entire Dublin area (not Heuston-side services) may have signalling issues.
Luas Green Line - possibly closed or with limited services.
DART - Bayside closed
Enterprise - bus transfers Belfast to Newry.

I'm just stuck on the 0545 from Sligo at Enfield. It looks like the Maynooth - Clonsilla signalling is out yet again which is a fairly regular occurrence.

We've had an announcement from the driver full of abbreviations like C&C and S&E to the effect that this is going to cause about a 20 minute delay at Enfield but I guess we'll just wait and see.

That's what I thought regarding C&C but that is definitely what he said. My point was that the announcement littered with Irish Rail acronyms was hardly customer friendly.

Anyway, we're back moving again. Irish Rail may actually be learning. They've let us enter the section ahead of the 0705 from Connolly which will be leaving Maynooth nearly 2 hours after leaving Connolly but normally only has three or four passengers on it.

Wednesday 26th October - UPDATE 09:15hrs

All services are operating on all routes today
- Belfast line has reopened between Newry and Portadown, bus transfer no longer in place
- Bayside Station remains closed. Customers are advised to use Sutton or Howth Junction Station.
- UPDATE Signal faul at Clonsilla has been rectified and services are returning to normal
