Very wet and blustery with some heavy and locally thundery rain. Strong and gusty southeasterly winds with gusts of 85 to 100 km/h in exposed places. Some local flooding too, with southern and eastern coastal counties especially at risk. The winds and rain will ease a good deal later tonight, with some patches of mist and fog developing, but rain will continue to be persistent along eastern coasts. Lowest temperatures 8 to 11 C.

There was a tree down a few hundred metres on the Mullingar side of Enfield this morning but top marks to Irish Rail on having it cleared early enough not to cause the 0545 Sligo to Connolly any real problems. (Although I may be speaking a little to soon as we've only just got through Enfield and there is possibly a queue up ahead).

Apparently IE were working on a bridge near Lansdowne Road which acted as a bit of dam...

does it sound like a fair bit of the ballsbridge damage last night could be attributed to this?

That might not be Irish Rail - there is a flood relief programme by the council in progress.

heard from a guy who was travelling home to drogheda on the monday night.

There was an announcement at connolly platform 6/7 thst northern commuter trains were suspended for the night, but one showed up and people boarded it and it left.

after a wait in clontarf road, the driver announced that he couldn't go any further and had to go back to connolly. they got back to platform 6/7 and as they went down the tunnel, the shutters were coming down. cue panic with people diving under, screams etc.
