DART and Commuters services are currently suspended between Lansdowne Road and Dalkey due to a security alert.

Dublin Bus are accepting rail tickets.

This website will be updated as further information is made available.

of course they're not telling us if services are running on both sides ie Dalkey Bray/Greystones

Interesting AARoadwatch saying this....

Quote:

DART services are only operating between Malahide/Howth and Lansdowne Rd and Dun Laoghaire Bray/Greystones until further notice due to a security alert.
I'd take both statements with a pinch of salt and contact the local station if i were travelling!

GardaÃ* in Dún Laoghaire are attending to a 'security alert' on the DART line.

A discovery was made on the rail tracks at the Old Dún Laoghaire Road.

GardaÃ* have requested the assistance of the Defence Forces and a bomb disposal unit has been dispatched.

Roads in the area have been sealed off.

DART services are only operating between Malahide/Howth and Lansdowne Road and Dún Laoghaire Bray/Greystones until further notice.

Irish Rail says Dublin Bus will honour all valid DART tickets.

Mark Gleeson 18-04-2011 12:32

Being pedantic thats Dunleary not Dun Laoghaire

Its the area behind the Purty Kitchen

No bus services use that road

As Irish Rail removed the crossover in Dun Laoghaire at Christmas they can't terminate northbound services from Bray as they now need to run out towards Salthill

ThomasJ 18-04-2011 12:36

still quiet a bit of confusion from what what Irish Rail and RTE and AA Roadwatch are saying

Irish Rail saying Lansdowne Dalkey suspended

RTE/AA saying Lansdowne Dun Laoghaire suspended

who's correct?

Mickey H 18-04-2011 12:36

Why can't the Rosslare trains run as far as Bray instead of the bus transfer to or from Wicklow?

Mark Gleeson 18-04-2011 13:24

Wicklow is the passing point for most Rosslare services, so the best point for a change.

ThomasJ 18-04-2011 13:36

confusion reigns!

One of the big tweets at the moment is irish rails original tweets that DARTs are suspended between Lansdowne Road and Dun Laoghaire

That coupled with what RTE and AA Roadwatch is adding to the confusion

I was down at the Dun Laoghaire station about 13:45 (not having seen the news) and there were no trains running from there. They were organising taxis to Bray for Rosslare people and telling everyone else that Dublin Bus were accepting tickets.

Colm Moore 18-04-2011 14:48

Seems to have been cleared. Delays of up to 15 minutes on a small number of services.

The Defence Forces has said that a suspicious device found beside the railway line in Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin was a viable bomb.

However, the Defence Forces said it was not part of any attack and had been stored near a pedestrian bridge for later use.

The device, which is believed to have been a pipe bomb, was removed from the scene by an army bomb disposal unit.

It is believed that the device was made by criminals rather than subversives. It has been wrapped in a duffle bag.

The alert had disrupted rail services between Dún Laoghaire and Dublin city centre for several hours.

A number of roads were also closed but have since re-opened.

If it was a pipe bomb, in such a position it posed only a slight risk to rail users. Its real risk would be if it was detonated (typically by a lighted fuse or impact), especially in a confined space.

The vast majority of such incidents are of criminals against other criminals, although luckily most don't detonate. However, whether it has detonated or not it should be considered highly unstable and not approached. Contact the Garda immediately and clear the area.

Dart resumes after security alert

Dart services have returned to normal after a security alert forced the closure of the line between Lansdowne Road and Dalkey in south Dublin earlier today.

A suspect device, believed to be a pipe bomb, was found on a pedestrian bridge over the Dart line on the old Dún Laoghaire Road before mid-day. GardaÃ* were called and an Army bomb disposal team called in.

The team arrived at the scene at 1.25pm and declared it safe at 2.50pm. The Dart line was re-opened shortly afterwards.

The Army described the device as viable and have classed it as what they term a "find" meaning it was probably being stored on the bridge for use elsewhere. It has now been handed over to GardaÃ* for their investigations.

Hi,
The removal of crossovers at Merrion Gates and Dun Laoghaire severely restricts operational flexibility in times such as this.
