Station works in Portlaoise

They have been working on the station in Portlaoise for many weeks now. In order to allow the trucks in and out of the station, they have stopped people from parking on the ramp up to the station which used to always be full. This means there is less room for cars to park and seeing as how the builders like to leave things lying around on parking spaces the number of spaces seems to reduce by the day. Yesterday for example we just about managed to park somewhere that wasn't a space but wasn't in the way of traffic. 3 spaces were blocked off by building materials such as fencing and cones. This morning the same 3 spaces were unavailable as were another 6 which were blocked by the trailer of a lorry with concrete slabs on it. People are going to be left with no choice but to abandon their cars and block the way for people getting the earlier trains home.

This morning we had to park alongside the lorry thing which is still sitting there actually taking up 6 not 5 spaces. We parked there as did 3 other cars. I'm sure we'll get a nice please refrain from parking in this area sticker but we had no choice. You should be able to get parking at 7:15 in the morning surely?

Isnt there parking on the other side (town side) or is that pay parking?

sandraoh 25-09-2006 15:21

There is space for about 20 cars on the other side but they are alway full (with staff cars sometimes - even though there is a special car park for staff cars)

Please photo any IE vehicles parked in Cark Park they won't be there much longer once the pic (minus reg) go up here

It will be hard to identify them really but you tend to see them drive away in them after the last train in the evening.

We had this problem in Newbridge and Kildare where the staff obviously arrive earlier than passengers and score the best spaces

Tell tale is the high vis IE jacket, that said someone in IE read the thread about 10 minutes ago

here is proof. Where are people supposed to park?

Mark Gleeson 26-09-2006 10:12

That looks completely ridiculous, IE have a massive depot in Port Laois no reason why that much kit needs to be sitting in the car park

try finding a parking space in the mornings when the train is due (not that it arrives on time lately). It is a disaster!

Sandra

If you have the time, can you write up a piece on the car park situation from a users perspective and PM it to me. Give me a quote from yourself and permission to use it. I'll edit it into a good press release and get it into the local papers and radio. No probs.

Your time has come. No penguin or badger, just a smilie.:D

the truck thing is gone this morning and the signs so only 4 spaces are being blocked with piles of builders materials. Coincidence?

Mark Gleeson 27-09-2006 08:59

Far too many coincidences when stuff gets posted here
