Early Train towards Sligo

At the moment the earliest a train arrives in Sligo is 10:10, is there any chance in the future we could see one arrive before 10 or even before 9?

Regards,
Darren

Only if there's demand. It's more or less the same story for the rest of the country if you're travelling away from Dublin.

Thanks, the train doesn't be that full in the morning so maybe there wouldn't be much demand.

Most of the morning trains out of Dublin arrive at their destination about 10:00.

I would love to see that but it's very unlikely. But if so it would really be useful for Sligo IT students who live in towns like Boyle & Longford to commute to Sligo instead of having to live in overcrowed apartments in Sligo

Early Arrival into Sligo

Is there no early bus service from Longford , Carrick and Boyle for Students going to Sligo IT?.

I know there is private bus service from Ballina right to Sligo IT. Tracey's.

I would be surprised if there is not a similar service from Longford?.

There's a bus service from Carrick to Sligo IT in the mornings and evenings at 07.45 and 17.00 but not from Longford.

There is a possible solution but the passenger numbers aren't there

Run a 21:05 Dublin Longford, following morning train runs from Longford to arrive before 8:30 and then operates a Dublin service

Will this service ever happen though? I know it was in the pipeline before but got pulled

Politicians got in the way since it required the cancellation of the 18:18 Connolly Longford beyond Mullingar, despite even with the cancellation Longford would still have 17:05, 17:15, 18:05 and 19:05 depatures

Of course there's demand, but the people who would demand it are not current rail users, I live in carrick on shannon and have had to change my hours to 10.30 to 6.30 to avail of the train. It's rediculous. All other cities have commuter rail, cork, limerick, galway etc

It's hard to sell a service like that economically. Now if you could get people to put down enough deposits for taxsavers to reliably fill 2/3 of a 22K set maybe you'd get somewhere. But instead IE is still obliged to follow "if you build it they will come" nonsense like the Alan Kelly Express.

And don't call Sligo a city, I think Kilkenny people should be embarrassed calling themselves a city and at least they have a 400 year old form from an English king saying they're one.

This thread looks like being overtaken by recent events. The draft discussion timetable has the first arrival in Sligo an hour later than previously.
