It's really shaping up to be a day to forget on the rails.
It started with the 06:15 Cork-Dublin breaking down causing to delays to every Cork/Kerry/Limerick service up to midday. Then there was the Lansdowne Rd level crossing. Now the DART being closed. And I believe there were some kind of delays on the Sligo line this morning. |
I certainly wasn't expecting much from the train today and there were some delays for the first two trains coming from Longford this morning thanks to a tree coming down just before Enfield. But considering how much debris came down on the roads in the midlands last night, it wasn't too bad.
Irish Rail were very good and they had it cleared just about in time for the early train from Sligo. I'm normally quite quick to criticise them but I think credit where credit is due on this one. |
Seems to have been a massive failure, possibly signalling. No trains going into or out of Pearse in either direction. Southbound DART terminated there. Displays are blank, online real time info static.
EDIT: IE's twitter: 19:00 Connolly - Belfast is cancelled due to flooding. All Northern Commuter services and DARTs north of Connolly cancelled Sligo and Maynooth services currently suspended due to flooding at Broombridge DART services now only operating between Connolly and Lansdowne Road due to flooding at Clontarf Road and Seapoint. DB honouring tickets UPDATE: All DART services now suspended due to flooding So as of half 8, literally no trains moving on the Connolly side of the network. Great. |
Update:
18.40 Connolly to Drogheda was delayed for 15 mins at Howth Junction due to a signal failure. Headed full speed to Donabate, but stuck there for 40 minutes awaiting an ambulance. Driver only made 1 announcement. Arrived 1 hour late to Rush and Lusk. But if IE twitter is correct, things are much worse behind it. Irish Rail main website (excl. Twitter) has very little on delays. |
2 out of service DARTs just rolled north out of Pearse. If they're going to Fairview maybe IE has given up for the night.
EDIT:confirmed DART services suspended for rest of the evening: focusing on trying to ensure services run in the morning. Dublin Bus accepting rail tickets |

IR reported DART, Enterprise and northern suburban services suspended as of 2030 due to flooding in Clontarf ? The place must be wiped out given that the railway is about 20 ft above the general ground level.
Is this the real story or is Irish Rail hiding something else in the general chaos ? They advised NIR earlier that there were signalling problems at Connolly and that this was delaying the departure of the 1900 to Belfast. Incidentally where would I get the Dublin Bus service for Belfast ? |
How come the Realtime search on the IE website still shows some services running via Connolly? Albeit very limited...

Seapoint under *a lot* of water. A mains drain burst through the road on Seapoint Avenue and it's flooding down onto the tracks through some unfortunate persons garden. It's got nowhere to go other than to fill in the cutting, which is lucky for everyone else in the area.

It looks like its stopped raining in most of the country, but still bad across most of Ulster.

whatever about Seapoint, the cutting at Dun Laoghaire always floods when there's torrential rain (admittedly today seems to have been particularly bad). Have IE done anything to improve things there?

Given the condition of Broombridge in this photo, could be problems tomorrow.

Is anyone aware of how bad broombridge is at this stage? Has the water levels subsided much? It looked really bad based on that photo Karl linked to yesterday.
