There seems to be a change

In fact under the accessibilty rules the please have your ticket ready etc pa as not allowed

ThomasJ 19-01-2007 00:45

It's nice aswell that the trains seem to be no longer announcing over the audio what stations it is calling at would be a nightmare for someone going gorey-sligo.

Just on the ticket validation issue is there an announcement made on kildare commuter when its reaching heuston re. ticket inspection/validation is there plans for ticket validation at heuston

Colm Donoghue 19-01-2007 08:27

I dont know about not calling out stations tro be served,
last night the 1815 from Pearse went to Maynooth even though the platform said it was for drogheda. a good few people got back off agian when the on train announcement said where it was going...
The train that should have left at 18:15 to go to drogheda went at 18:20.

What's the story if a platform display announces the wrong destination and you end up where you don't want to go anyway?

portarlington_user 19-01-2007 10:29

Not sure which train it should have been but at around 25 past 7 a delayed mk3 (I think!) train on Portarlington platform, after questioning what train it was I was advised to get on it anyway cos they were having engine problems. Got on, heard the chimes at the beginning and end of announcements, but nothing in between!

I was in Malahide at one stage. Most DARTs terminate on the inbound platform. We were advised to go to the far platform. Almost immediately a DART EMU shows up on the inbound platform. People get worried. Immediately after a DMU shows up next to it, on outbound platform, where everyone is waiting - and worrying, as the destination states "Mullingar". I ask the driver if the train is going to Connolly to which he replies, "No, Dundalk". The EMU was "early" and had to block either the inbound or outbound DMU.

One has to be careful doing this (and dealing with gurriers) as you don't want to combine heart failure and train failure between stations.

I've had it

If I'd had a shotgun last night I'd probably be typing this from my cell right now.
Missed the 25 past 5 from heuston by about 30 seconds, queued up for the next one to portarlington which is the 10 to 6. Boarded at about quarter to, sat there like a fool watching the 18:00 cork train leave and wondering what was happening. I had just taken out my phone to ring heuston station and demand to know why I was still in heuston 15 minutes after I should have left.
Luckily for them we started moving. Naturally the 5 past 6 had left before us, although it did pull over and we passed it out.
Crawled home. Just outside Portarlington station the train stopped. No announcement. Standing there queuing to get off the bloody train. Eventually an IE man (in a new uniform) strolls through the train. Everybody extremely p*ssed off. Another angry woman took the words out of my mouth and demanded to know why we were here. Looked at us like we all had 5 heads each and said, "we're putting on a new engine". "Is that why we were delayed at the start?" "Yeah" - shrug. "Why weren't we told so that we could get on the 5 past 6?" "you WERE told." "Excuse me but we were NOT told." "well, there was an announcement on the intercom" "Your 'intercom' is clearly not working" "Oh, well i didn't know that". Silly us. We then watched the 5 past 6 arrive to portarlington, and then I think the 25 to 7 arrived in front of us. Got home nearly 3 hours after I left the office.

My patience gets thinner and thinner with this joke of a service and I'm actually trying to find a new job just so that I don't have to use the trains everyday. The new morning timetable is an absolute joke as well. I'll do the usual crappy process of writing to them but what's the point??? A €2 voucher and an automatic 'apology'?   If you hear of any IT jobs in the midlands let me know...

7:16 from Rush and Lusk had correct external next station display on the front half of the train but last 4 cars were blank.
inside pis said next station was Gormanstown the whole way to Connolly

Mark Gleeson 09-02-2007 11:08

If its said Gormanstown we got a problem since its spelt Gormanston

Colm Donoghue 09-02-2007 11:19

I dunno how it was spelt, either as Gaeilge no as Bearla. I just know the next station hadn't been Gormanston for the last few stops

is there any point to all this - IE clearly don't give a damn.

Thomas J Stamp 12-02-2007 23:35

we give a damn, that's the point

portarlington_user 13-02-2007 09:27

17:50 from Heuston
No explanation about delays, no apologies. I know for a fact that they know the intercom doesn't work because I heard a woman specifically telling one of their guys recently during another day of delays when we were left wondering. Nobody that I could see was dispatched through the train to inform people of what was going on. What a joke.
